“Come unto me, all that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
If you had nothing in this life but the Lord, would He be enough for you to be content? It’s not hard to figure out what we most often surround ourselves with while trying to bring lasting joy and peace. What makes you happy or gives you peace and contentment? Just fill in the blank: “I would be happy if I just had….” or “If only….” No doubt all of us could answer these probing questions with multiple items or people. Every one of us clutter our lives, expecting these things to do what only God can. Whether we realize it or not, these replacements can never fully satisfy, because, in the end, they always disappoint.
We must declutter. Identify the things you need to throw out and replace them with the only thing/one that can satisfy…God. No matter what causes you to stress, fear, cry, or get angry, run to our Loving Lord. “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). May we each come to the place where we realize that God is enough!
“Lord, help me to live in such a way that You are enough! For only You can make it worth living today, breathing and giving of myself because You alone are enough! If I lost everything but You, help me remember You alone are enough. Help me remember how little this life has to offer and how empty living for its joys leave me. I ask that You keep before me my mission on this earth to serve You, honor You, love You, praise You, and live for You, instead of myself. May I see you as you are and not as I want or expect you to be. You are high and lifted up and I am weak and flawed. Thank You for being all that I need! Amen.”
